This afternoon Basil McCrea MLA joined Cancer Research UK’s staff and scientists in the Long Gallery of the Stormont Assembly.

Policing Board & PSNI meet to discuss issues prior to upcoming parades
Members of the Policing Board, Martina Anderson MLA and Basil McCrea MLA, met yesterday with C/Superintendent Stephen Martin and C/Superintendent Mark Hamilton on how issues arising from this year’s parading season are being taken forward.
Speaking after the meeting Basil McCrea MLA, Chair of the Board’s Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee said:

Newsletter & BBC: PSNI chief offers support to Board as it vows to address criticism

Basil McCrea, Chairperson of Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee and Policing Board Member
Today the BBC and the Newsletter published articles regarding a recent independent report of the Policing Board’s activities. Specifically, the scrutiny panel was criticised as slow to take decisions, bureaucratic and was not providing value for its £8.8 million annual budget.
However, the report was not entirely negative and did commend the board’s oversight work in regard to human rights compliance and historic police investigations.
Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee, and Board member Basil McCrea said the fact members had commissioned the report indicated there was a determination to improve performance. Read more
Policing Plan 2010/2011 Performance Summary figures released
