Basil McCrea MLA to speak at CPPS Policing and Justice Seminar
UUP Policing Board Member and Chair of the Board’s Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee Basil McCrea MLA will be speaking at a CPPS Policing and Justice Seminar in London on Friday 29 October 2010 entitled “How best can we deliver the most effective policing in the 21st century reconnecting police and people.”

Breast Cancer – Wear it Pink! Campaign 2010
Today Basil McCrea, MLA for Lagan Valley, and a number of UUP Party members showed their support for the Breast Cancer Awareness week by wearing pink and encouraging acknowledgement and support for those victims and survivors of breast cancer.

Politicians join sporting bid to unite against hate crime
Politicians teamed up with local sports ahead of a weekend that will see players and fans join forces to kick hate crime into touch.
Over the weekend clubs will show their support for the campaign at grounds and arenas across the region, with the Unite anthem played and wristbands distributed to supporters.

Policing Board presses PSNI on complaints strategy

Members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board’s Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee have met with representatives of the Police Ombudsman’s Office to consider the persistent levels of complaints of incivility against police officers, and with Deputy Chief Constable Judith Gillespie to discuss plans to reduce the number of complaints against the PSNI.

Northern Ireland Chamber launches radical new manifesto for jobs and growth
Last week the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce launched its manifesto for jobs and growth, ‘Enabling Economic Excellence’.

Basil McCrea MLA welcomes visit from Early Years
Ulster Unionist MLA Basil McCrea has welcomed a visit from Early Years, a young persons’ organisation to the Northern Ireland Assembly in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of early intervention within our education sector.
Representatives from the UUP met with Pauline Walmsley and Siobhan Fitzpatrick as they put forward their views on how to move forward.

Last week on the 9th of October, Basil McCrea MLA spoke at the Committee on the Administration of Justice’s launch of the brand new premise and website.
After 29 years on Donegall Street and with an increasing number of core staff and a high volume of regular volunteers, CAJ has long required larger premises.

This weekend, the Belfast Telegraph reported on the Human rights and Professional Standards Committee meeting last Friday in Londonderry, with an interview with Basil McCrea, Chairman of the committee discussing the Assembly Members in attendance vowing that the dissidents would not disrupt progress.
“Defiant Policing Board members have staged a meeting on the Londonderry site where a massive Real IRA bomb exploded earlier this week.
Earlier this week it was suggested that the meeting may have been one of the intended targets of the Real IRA’s 200lbs bomb outside the Ulster Bank premises next to the hotel on Culmore Road. Read more
Human Rights & Professional Standards Committee to focus on crimes motivated by domestic abuse
Ulster Unionist Policing Board member and Chair of the Board’s Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee Basil McCrea MLA has voiced his concern in relation to new figures which highlight the level of crimes committed with a domestic abuse motivation.
Commenting on the issue Basil said: “According to recently published PSNI statistics over 9% of all crimes recorded in Northern Ireland are crimes with a domestic abuse motivation. This is hugely worrying. Read more
