Today thirty young people from across Northern Ireland were given the unique opportunity to meet and debate with experienced MLAs Basil McCrea and Colin McDevitt and learn more about the inner workings of the Stormont Assembly, as part of an ongoing pilot project.

The project, launched by Stormont’s Education Service earlier this year, gathered thirty nominated teens ranging in age between sixteen and nineteen years old, to ‘mirror’ the structure of the assembly.

Each young person chosen represents their own constituency and after immersion into modern politics, the collective will produce a list of recommendations based on their insights to the Executive. Read more

Today members of the Assembly met at Stormont to discuss the staggering lack of attendance to schools across Northern Ireland.

Research conducted by UUP members, Mr.Roy Beggs MLA , Mr. Basil McCrea MLA, and Mr. John McCallister MLA revealed today that in the majority of areas up to four-tenths of children have an attendance rate below 85%.

“Four-tenths can sound like a small number,” stated Basil McCrea MLA, “but in reality, that is 40% of all students who are not  attending school on a regular basis. That is a horrendous reality we must face. Read more

Basil showing EduIncentive prize winners around Stormont

A new local Northern Ireland ICT company, EduIncentive, who supply a range of innovative Internet based Fun-Quiz educational tools for schools and young people, hosted a Prize-Awards ceremony for Northern Ireland school students last Friday 18th June, at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

The prizes were won by school students who participated and excelled in recent EduIncentive Fun-Quiz projects covering subject areas such as Civic Awareness & Good Citizenship, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Schools from across Northern Ireland attended the Prize-Awards event, and whilst there, the students along with Teachers and Parents also enjoyed a tour of the Stormont building, and had a guided tour of the NI Assembly and its facilities. Read more
